Plot - A New Jersey police lieutenant, Laurel Hester leads a battle against the authorities to secure her pension benefits for her partner Stacie after Laurel is diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Based on a true story, Freeheld is a romantic drama about a lesbian couple who voice for the LGBT rights regarding securing pension benefits for their registered partner. Following her terminal cancer diagnosis, Laurel Hester, a NJ police lieutenant battles to have her pension reimbursement go in her partner’s name.
